Gemma is a qualified solicitor with experience in financial services matters.
Gemma primarily oversees a multi-jurisdiction property dispute in Cyprus which for many clients has resulted in litigation. There are a multitude of complex legal issues within the case which began with the mis-selling of Swiss Franc mortgages. The Supreme Court of Cyprus referred the case on a technical point of law to the European Court of Justice. Our Cypriot counsel was successful in their arguments and the case has now been referred back to the Supreme Court of Cyprus for interpretation. Gemma works closely with her clients and Cypriot legal counsel in the day to day running of the cases. She regularly visits Cyprus and engages in negotiations with Alpha Bank, these negotiations have been successful for a large number of clients who have now settled their cases.
Gemma also regularly advises financial services firms who are appointed representatives in dispute with their network. She has also acted for clients where they have been mis-sold investments or received negligent pension and/or mortgage advice. This has resulted in a breadth of experience in litigation, the Financial Ombudsman Service and Financial Services Compensation Scheme. She has a keen interest in financial services law and is currently studying an LLM in Financial Regulation and Compliance at BPP University in London.
